Generation righteous neighborhood development in Arnsberg


Town planning which structures social life is no secondary field to the human life. The traditional philosophy of Hedonism has always but forward the well-being of humans based on the duality of their personal and social life.

Our project and the urban intervention attached to it, focuses on being socially responsible throughout self-management and mutual trust, which has the benefit of bringing forward other types of organizations.

Throughout this innovative project, we would like to underline a certain outlook on life, relying on architecture and urbanism that is carried out by an inter-generational development policy.

Neheim is Arnsberg’s most populated neighborhood. With its 22000 inhabitants, it is taking a significant importance, whence the sensitivity required for the urban reorganization of this project.

Focusing on our targeted area, the neighborhood is characterized by a significant difference in height. At this point in time, 244 house units (covering 11.765m2) are meant to be replaced.

We will now explain through several elements, the concept of our project and what we are suggesting for Neheim’s neighborhood :

_ An urban organization mindful of demographic growth, but moreover innovative thanks to a peripheral parking system associated with crossing walkways allowing to create micro-societies within the neighborhood.

_ These micro-societies are inter-related, where self-management works as social cement.

_ Rethink the concept of boundaries thanks to an innovative system that allow cohabitation between micro-societies

_ Every micro-society is a unique way to try out a social experiment

_ Every architectural element, every building is specifically conceived for individual needs, and their users space. This is done according to the rules applied in urbanism, it builds the identity of the group.

_ The solar panels that cover the roofing’s bring an evironmentally responsible touch to this intervention.

_ Neheim’s unique shape, will allow the new neighborhood to be attractive, durable, built-in its environment, looking towards the future.

To conclude, what we propose in this project, was explained by Nietzche in « Also Sprach Zarathustra ». He brought forward the concept of social life which throughout architecture and urbanism carries out symbols and political views :

« What do these houses mean ? To say the truth it is not a great soul that built them to serve as reference (…) and these rooms and accommodations ! How can man go in and out of them ?... »

« Was bedeuten diese Hauser ? Wahrlich, keine grosse Seete stellte sie hin, sich zum Gleichnisse ! (…) Und diese Stuben und Kammen : lonnen Manner da aus-und eingehen ?... »

To sum up the words of Nietzsche, the question brought up is : tell me how you live and i will tell you how you define mankind.
